Drawn scene — not a portrait

Manusanan Pandee, nicknamed Tai, was originally from Chon Buri in Thailand. She became a teen star around 2007, working as a supporting actress in television shows, films, commercials and other media. Her best-known films were Noodle Boxer and See How They Run. She later became a prominent singer in Bangkok's entertainment scene.

The Thaiger reported on her in July 2020, after her death, and described the years that came before. Around 2019 she was seen on the streets of Chon Buri with her head shaved, begging. Relatives and the media said she had struggled for a long time with substance abuse, and the article also reports that she was said to have developed a mental illness after a car crash that killed her former boyfriend, who was also a singer. The article does not say how long she was on the streets.

Her family situation had also changed. Her mother, Usa Chankae, was in prison, which left Manusanan without family support. She recently stayed with her mother at a homeless shelter in Chon Buri, and a family friend, Jan Kongkaew, later let her stay at his house. A video of her living in poverty had spread widely online.

Kongkaew said that in the week before her death she looked very sick and had turned down offers of help. She was found dead at his home in Si Racha, Chon Buri, on the morning of 23 July 2020, at the age of 33. Police found no sign of a struggle, and the cause of death was still under investigation.

Her story is a reminder of how far a young performer can fall from public life when support falls away.

وأشهر أفلامها Noodle Boxer وSee How They Run.
