Kane Evans — Completed rehabilitation; four months sober · before 2026 · Not stated in source
Fiji Rugby League Prop Slept in Parks
Drawn scene — not a portrait

Kane Evans is a rugby league forward who played for the Sydney Roosters, the Parramatta Eels, the Warriors and Hull FC in the English Super League. He also won 13 Test caps for Fiji, including at two World Cups. In 2021 he played 14 games for the Warriors, when the club was based in Australia.

His time with the Warriors ended in difficulty. Late in 2021 he was fined 5,000 dollars over a message written on his wrist tape, and he was later sin-binned in matches against the Cronulla Sharks and the Gold Coast Titans, the second incident bringing a five-match ban. He was then released from his contract a year early.

In a 2026 television interview reported by Newstalk ZB, he spoke about the lowest point that followed. He said he had been sleeping in parks while struggling with drug use, and he linked that period to years of denying his sexuality. The report does not say when this happened, where beyond the parks, or how long it went on.

The interview marked a turning point. He came out as gay on Channel Nine's 100% Footy, and said that doing so removed the power of people who had blackmailed him and left him feeling freer. When the interview was recorded he had not yet told his parents.

He had completed a stint in rehabilitation and, in May, marked more than four months of sobriety on social media. He credited Joe Galuvao of the Rugby League Players Association's past players programme, the former Roosters coach Trent Robinson, and the mental health support offered by the Warriors for helping him through.
