A Wedding Party Actress Living in a Church

Jumoke George is a veteran Nigerian actress who has appeared in hundreds of Yoruba-language films. She also played a caterer in the award-winning comedy The Wedding Party. Her health began to deteriorate in 2025, she told The Guardian Nigeria, and she had to cancel some jobs; work now came only once every three or four months. She also had to borrow money to refund someone who had paid her for a project she could not finish.

In May 2025 she gave an interview to the podcast Talk to B, hosted by actress Biola Adebayo, and spoke in tears. She said she had been without a home for about six years. After her rent became unaffordable she was evicted, and the leader of a local church gave her a small room, which she kept private because she felt embarrassed. She sleeps there on a mattress on the floor. The church leader, whom she calls Mummy church, has often fed her and bought her medicine.

She also spoke about her first child, Adeola, who she said had been missing for four years. According to her account, Adeola had been living with Jumoke's mother in Ibadan and said she was coming to Lagos but never arrived. She later phoned from an unfamiliar number, asked for forgiveness and said she had gone with friends to look for a better life. Jumoke has cared for Adeola's children since. Her son Ife has borrowed nearly two million naira for her treatment and daily needs, and he is looking for his sister too.

The interview drew wide attention. Weeks later, in June 2025, Legit.ng reported that fellow actress Biola Bayo had announced gifts for Jumoke: a four-bedroom duplex, an SUV and a plot of land, made possible by contributions from the public. A photo caption described her as set to move into her new home.
