Drawn scene — not a portrait

Jordi Morey was a forward who played in the first team of Real Mallorca in the early 1980s, when the club returned to Spain's top division. He later played for Poblense, Levante and Córdoba. Última Hora, the Mallorca daily, does not give a detailed account of the years between his playing days and the winter of 2025–26.

At 67, he spent several months on the street in Palma, sleeping outdoors and moving around the area of s'Escorxador. The newspaper describes his physical and mental state as poor and links the situation to difficult life circumstances. His health worsened and he was admitted for a few days to Hospital de Son Espases. He has since been treated for arthritis and high uric acid, and his medication is now managed.

After Última Hora reported on his life on the street, the paper says, a wave of public support followed. Two childhood friends reacted quickly once they learned of his situation, and former teammates Riado, Sahuquillo, Barrera and Chichi Soler stayed in close contact. The Real Mallorca veterans' association helped him move to Can Gazà, and the club also sent him a set of clothes through the association.

Can Gazà is an institution founded by Jaume Santandreu that houses people at risk of social exclusion, on the outskirts of Palma, with views of fields, an orchard and livestock. By March 2026 Morey lived there with a roommate and listened to the radio. His appearance had improved, though he still had joint pain and limited mobility.

With help from a social worker at Son Espases, he has started the process of obtaining a retirement pension and is working to recover his identity documents.
