Homeless months before landing Pose

Indya Moore, the actor and model who uses they/them pronouns, left home at 14 after tensions in the family grew. A 2019 profile in Stylist explains that Moore had been assigned male at birth and says the family expected them to be masculine. What followed were years in and out of foster care, group homes and the courts. The article does not give exact dates or durations for most of this period.

Moore describes this as a time of great instability and harm. After a foster parent who was a trans woman stopped providing hormones, Moore turned to the internet, where strangers on Facebook offered help and Moore ended up trafficked, saying of that time that they were just a kid. This went on for about a year. Moore later found shelter with a boyfriend and his mother in the Bronx, and more foster homes and other placements followed.

The profile says that Moore finally fled foster care for the last time and wound up homeless. It does not state how long that lasted. A few months later, Moore auditioned for the television series Pose.

Moore had been posting on Instagram for years, and a video about men being attracted to trans women went viral. The modelling agency IMG signed Moore as a model. Moore then won the role of Angel in Pose, and went on to become the face of Louis Vuitton and Calvin Klein. According to the article, Moore has since reconciled with their mother.
