Los Ángeles Negros Singer Living in a Wrecked Van
Drawn scene — not a portrait

Enrique Castillo was the vocalist of Los Ángeles Negros, the Chilean romantic band, in the 1980s. According to El Dínamo, about thirty years before the 2015 report he left Chile for Mexico in search of opportunities. In Mexico he met a lawyer, Jacqueline Irene Sandoval Martínez, whom he married, and the couple had a daughter.

His wife died in 2014. The article says that after the funeral her in-laws put him out of the family home. By early 2015 he was living in a van that was in poor condition, with flat tyres and broken windows. He relied on neighbours for food and clothing, and the report describes the conditions around the vehicle as very poor.

Castillo told the Chilean media that he wanted to return to Chile but had no money to do so. He also said he did not know the procedures he would need to follow, and did not know whether any of his siblings were still alive.

The article also records the reaction of Germaín de la Fuente, another former singer of Los Ángeles Negros. He said he had never met Castillo, who joined the group after he had left. He remembered that Castillo sang well on television, said that he was not in a condition to chase royalties, and doubted that the band earns much from its later recordings.

El Dínamo's report, published on 10 February 2015, does not say what happened to Castillo afterwards. It is an account of a singer from a well-known Chilean group who had settled in another country, lost his wife and his home within a short time, and was hoping to find his way back.
