From a Plaza Bench to Argentine Television

Andrea Rincón is an Argentine television personality and dancer. In a 2021 interview on the programme Podemos Hablar, reported by Diario de Cuyo and Crónica, she looked back on her time as a teenager without a home.

She has said that her mother left her and that her relationship with her father later broke down. After a fight she left, or was put out of the family home, while she was still at school. In her words, she literally ended up on the street. For a time she also lived in a boarding house where she had no money.

The reports describe how she managed. She slept in a plaza, and sometimes at the houses of friends. She washed at a petrol station across from her school so that she could go to class. She went hungry and, by her own account, went through bins for food, and she also ate burgers from the restaurant where her father had been hired to work as a clown. She finished school while sleeping outdoors. The articles do not say how long this lasted. They mention that her siblings later pressed her father to go and look for her.

Her way out was not a single event. She entered the reality show Gran Hermano, which launched her television career, and later danced on ShowMatch and became a vedette in Argentine entertainment.

She has also said that she is slowly repairing her ties with her mother and father, and that she could never fully leave her neighbourhood because of her siblings. Infobae reported that she now lives near the plaza where she once slept.
