Walking All Night in Tokyo, Then Singing to Thousands
Aina The End — Popular J-pop singer, formerly of BiSH · her late teens (ages 18–19) · Tokyo, Japan
Drawn scene — not a portrait
Aina The End grew up in Osaka. She started jazz dance at the age of four and at first wanted to be a dancer. At seventeen, a close friend from the dance world encouraged her to try singing, and she moved to Tokyo to pursue it, with very little preparation.
Speaking in February 2026 on Fuji TV's programme Bokura no Jidai, alongside Haruko Osa of Ryokuoushoku Shakai and Airi Suzuki, she described what happened next. Things did not go well and she had almost no money. At eighteen and nineteen there were times when she had no home. She said she walked around Nakano Station until morning, because staying in one place attracted strange people, and when the first trains began running she went to her part-time job, using money her manager had given her. The article does not say how long this lasted.
She also described how deprivation affected her. She said she kept thinking about meat and could not afford even a single piece, and that being so depleted distorted her thinking so that she did not like the person she was becoming.
A fresh start followed. She joined the girl group BiSH and took the stage name Aina The End, choosing it to mark the end of her old self. She later became known as a solo artist as well, and is now a popular J-pop singer.
Her account, told calmly on a talk programme, shows how a young person with a clear ambition can be left with very little in a large city.
