Studio Floors and Shops, Then a Seat in Parliament

Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A-Plus, is a Ghanaian musician and the hitmaker behind Aben Be Bom. He holds a degree in public administration and is currently studying law. His arrival in Accra in the late 1990s was far from easy, as he later described in a Facebook post reported by YEN.com.gh in December 2022.

He wrote that he came to the city in 1998 with 500,000 old cedis, which he said was equivalent to 50 cedis today. The money was for studio time to record a demo at Slim Buster's studio. He had no place to stay and no money for a hotel.

He described his first year in Accra as hell, and said he was homeless for a long time. He often spent nights in shops and with friends, and sometimes in the voice room at Slim Buster's studio. He also remembered that the musician Tic Tac sometimes picked him up and they walked together to Nana King's studio at Dansoman.

The post ended with encouragement for others. He wrote that success comes when you dare to continue doing what you are fed up with doing. The report does not give further details of his career beyond his best-known song.
